EQ2 "Extended"

God knows why I still haven't canceled EQ2...

Anyways, if anybody here (Ranak, I am looking at you...) plans to play EQ2 extended's "free" server gimmick gimme a shout and I'll come play it with you.



If you haven't heard of this yet (don't worry, you're not missing much), it's basically a F2P version of Everquest II. Go google it if you want more info.

I'm trying to get used to the new interface they apparently barfed up with this GU. I really need to stop being lazy and install a custom UI I'm more familiar with....

It's not beta, it's live as of... uh, either today or yesterday. I think. It'd better be live, the marketplace (RMT) is up and running...

Just make certain you download the EQ2x streaming client, and not the regular one. The free server, "Freeport" (I think somebody thought naming the free server "Freeport" would be cute... -_-; ) is not available from the selection of servers with the normal game client.

I know some people might have issues with the streaming client... I'm not sure if EQ2x is available from the station launcher yet, as THAT version of EQ2 is the whole game itself, not just bits and pieces you download as you play.

On a side note, it looks like this thing is getting some attention. I don't usually see the server loads for EQ2 anything beyond "light" until late in the evening, and only for three specific servers, but Freeport is already at Medium. <shrugs>

I downloaded something and rolled a Wizard on the freeport server since I'd have to pay to play a ranger apparently. My character's name is Anaeran and I immediately just ran to Kelethin to listen to the nostalgic music. Camped out there.

If it's going to block off even class selection without payment, I doubt I'll even log into it again tbh.

Also, my computer runs this like shit, which means I need to upgrade before Rift hits. FML.

so i downloaded the free client, it patched and the play button pop'd up, I clicked it and went out for maybe 2 hours I come back and it still says, Starting, am I missing something or is staring at the EQ II Extended window the F2P? =p

Heh.

For me the "starting" button only lasts a moment. I don't know anything about this issue with the client. It's possible that you can find something about it in the tech support forums.

took me about an hour to get on , had to closer patcher / reopen ect over and over till it worked right lol.

The streaming client of the game, which appears to be the only version of it available for use on the EQ2x server (as opposed to installing the game from CD, or from the station launcher program), has also been known to be buggy for the occaisional player here and there, ranging from random CTDs to being flat out incomatable. <shrugs>
